carrol-house-inns-on-great-george-charlottetown-pei
Carrol House, Inns on Great George, Charlottetown, PEI

The sketch captures Great George Street in spring, where a row of Georgian townhouses in coral, sky blue, and warm yellow line the street directly opposite St. Dunstan's Basilica. A couple strolls past the colourful facades, tulips are coming up in the garden beds, and a lamp post anchors the corner with the kind of quiet dignity this street has had since the 1860s.

Carroll House at 64 Great George Street is one of the most storied buildings on this historic block. Built between 1855 and 1863, the wood-framed Neo-classical building features a symmetrical facade with clapboard siding, a gabled roof with a central Scottish dormer, and double doors beneath a Roman arched fanlight. It was formally recognised as a heritage place in 1979, and in its early life was rented to tavern keeper John Carrol, who ran the late-19th-century L'Etoile du Nord oyster bar on the premises. Today it houses some of The Great George boutique hotel's signature Romantic Hideaway Suites, beloved for their historic architectural character. Great George Street was the processional route for the Fathers of Confederation in 1864, with St. Dunstan's Basilica and its twin Gothic spires standing just across the street. The waterfront is minutes away, Victoria Row is around the corner, and the whole downtown invites you to take your time.

FOR ART PRINTS:

Sizes available are: 5"x7", 8"x10", 9"x12" and 11"x14".

Reproduced on high-quality 100lb paper and archival ink so your art will last for years to come!
