Collection: Mahone Bay
Mahone Bay, a picturesque town in Nova Scotia's South Shore, is known for its charming architecture and rich maritime history. Nestled on the eastern side of Mahone Bay, this small fishing village boasts breathtaking harbor views and a historic district that has been beautifully preserved as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The area was first inhabited by the indigenous Mi'kmaq people, with European settlers arriving in the mid-18th century. The town's shipbuilding heritage and wooden boat-building history are celebrated at the Mahone Bay Museum. Mahone Bay is home to three historic wooden churches: St John’s Evangelical Lutheran, St James’ Anglican, and Trinity United Churches, which date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The town's main street along the bay features a charming array of 18th-century buildings housing galleries, boutique shops, and seafood restaurants, creating a magical atmosphere. It is situated on the northwest shore of Mahone Bay along the South Shore of Nova Scotia in Lunenburg County and the bay is dotted with numerous small and medium-sized islands, making it a popular sailing area with diverse habitats including forests, rocky shores, beaches, wetlands, and mudflats.
